‘Members Matter Most’

ANGUS Credit Union is joining 51,000 credit unions from 100 countries around the world to celebrate International Credit Union Day, and offering credit union members a chance to win a £50 Co-op voucher.

This year International Credit Union Day fell yesterday (Thursday). Anyone who joins Angus Credit Union or takes out a loan in October or November will be entered in the prize draw.

Members are creating a window display this week in the credit union’s new shop at 242 High Street which opened for business last month. The display will highlight the international reach of credit unions, all working to help members reach their financial goals, strengthen communities and contribute to building a better world.

Linda McDonald, deputy chair of Angus Credit Union, stated: “Our credit union is firmly rooted in Angus, but we are also part of a growing global movement. Our 700 plus members in Angus are amongst the 196 million people worldwide who have chosen to join and use a credit union.”

The theme for this year is ‘Members Matter Most’, celebrating the important difference between credit unions and other financial institutions.

Credit unions are financial co-operatives that are owned and controlled by their members, not by external shareholders. The theme is especially relevant this year, as the United Nations has chosen 2012 to be the Year of the Co-operatives.

To join Angus Credit Union, visit the shop at 242 High Street, Arbroath, between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., call 874477 or download an application form from www.anguscreditunion.co.uk.
