Local bakers are ‘pie high’ after awards

Bakers in our area have come away with a clutch of prizes from this year’s World Scotch Pie Championships.

Carnoustie’s own J.M. Bakery accounted for three prizes, with a gold award for their deep apple pie, silver for the macaroni pie and bronze for their Scotch pie.

The Keptie Bakery in Letham was presented with a gold award for their bridies while Pie Bob’s Takeaway in Arbroath received a silver in the same category.

The competition is supported by Scottish Bakers and the Scottish Federation of Meat Traders, The Kandy Bar, Saltcoats was crowned World Scotch Pie Champion 2014 at the awards dinner in Dunfermline last week.

Alan Clarke of Scottish Bakers, said: “Once again we have brought together the best pies and baked goods in the land and today we can really celebrate the achievement of our hard working butchers and bakers. My heartfelt congratulations go to our winner, and indeed everyone today taking away a prize. They are all winners in my book.”
