RUMOURS that well known bakery Greggs is to open in Arbroath were confirmed this week.
Work is now under way on the shop at 234 High Street, on the corner of the entrance to the Abbeygate Superstore, to transform the premises into a Greggs’ outlet.
And a spokesman for the firm, famous for its pies and pasties, says they expect to open by the end of the month.
A planning application, for the former Stead & Simpson premises, was submitted in October last year, but at the time Greggs would not confirm or deny they would be opening in the town, saying only: “Greggs would love to open a new shop in the town, but is currently looking at options available to them.”
The company, which has embarked on a fierce expansion programme in the last couple of years, confirmed this week that they would be opening in Arbroath.
A Greggs spokesman said: “We are launching a new Greggs shop on High Street in Arbroath and are looking forward to welcoming customers there. Our shop-fitting team will be on site next week and we will be opening the shop towards the end of this month.”
