Employment grant launched

A NEW scheme to encourage business start up and employment in the county has been launched by Angus Council.

The new Angus Employment Grant is designed to address three key areas - business creation, employment and youth employment - through a combination of capital grants and wage subsidies.

The council’s spokesperson on economic development, Councillor Mairi Evans, welcomed the authority’s commitment to help local businesses during tough economic conditions.

She stated: “The launch of this new grant scheme recognises that small and medium sized businesses form a vital part of the Angus economy and that they must be supported as we work to recover from the recession.

“This investment in the local economy reflects the council’s commitment to finding innovative solutions to ensuring our communities remain prosperous and fair during these difficult financial times.

“In particular it is vital that we encourage companies to continue to recruit, and this scheme is designed to enable businesses to become employers for the first time, to improve employment opportunities for local people and to assist individuals from the 18 to 24 years age group to access mainstream employment.”
