THE ABBEYGATE’S newest store, which has brought 30 jobs to Arbroath, is set to be opened by a well known soap star.
Poundland is taking up one of the vacant units in the shopping centre and the store is set to open on Thursday, June 30.
And two days later to mark their first weekend of trading, the outlet will be welcoming Emmerdale actor Mark Charnock, who is better known as Marlon Dingle, to the town.
He will be swapping the Dales for Arbroath from 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 2, to sign autographs and pose for pictures to officially launch the new shop.
Poundland’s trading director David Coxon is pleased the company have managed to bring their brand to Arbroath and hope local people will enjoy the store.
He said: “We are delighted to bring our unique proposition to Arbroath.
“Poundland offers exceptional value on top branded products to over 3.5 million customers every week.
“The £1 price hasn’t changed since we opened our first store 21 years ago. Our current customers love us and we are sure the Arbroath shoppers will too.”
Poundland will fill half of the unit that was left empty by the Co-op when they moved to a smaller outlet in the centre.
The other half of the shop will be filled by another discount retailer, Home Bargains.
