Britain’s favourite soprano to sing in Webster

BRITAIN’S favourite soprano, Lesley Garrett, will be the special guest of Arbroath Male Voice Choir at two gala concerts in the Webster Memorial Theatre, Arbroath, on March 29 and 30 next year.

Lesley Garrett, CBE, (pictured) regularly appears in both opera and in concert on television and CD. She has 13 solo CDs to her credit from ‘Soprano in Red’ which received the Gramophone Award for ‘Best-selling Classical Artist of the Year’ to the recent ‘Amazing Grace’ featuring choral and classical favourites.

Television appearances include, The Lesley Garrett Show and The Singer as well as Strictly Come Dancing and Loose Women. Musical theatre roles include Nettie in ‘Carousel’ and the Mother Abbess in ‘The Sound of Music’ in the West End and on national tour.

Choir president Dr Richard Irvine said: “This is a real coup for the choir and we can’t wait for these gala concerts to come round. It’s not every day that you get to sing with an international superstar so the choir is really looking forward to these dates.”

With over 40 men on stage this popular east of Scotland choir will bring audiences the power and passion of male voice singing with selections from the popular, classical, musical theatre and Scottish repertoire under the direction of Sheena Guthrie.

Dr Irvine continued: “We have already had inquiries about the concerts from as far afield as the south coast of England. These gala concerts will really help to establish the Webster Memorial Theatre as a quality top class venue, which can only be good for the region. I would advise getting your tickets quickly to avoid disappointment!”

Tickets for the Arbroath Male Voice Choir’s gala concerts with Lesley Garrett on March 29 and 30 go on sale to the public on Tuesday, October 4, from the Webster Memorial Theatre box office priced £20 and £18 concessions. These can be purchased in person or by ‘phone on 01241 435800.
