A MASSIVE £12,500 has been raised by the local committee of Cancer Research UK over the past year.

The committee has organised and carried out many events in Arbroath and across Angus during the past 12 months, which has resulted in a huge amount of cash being donated to the charity.

Highlights have included the second annual New Year’s Day Dook, which saw 66 people take to the chilly waters of the West Links on the first day of 2012 in aid of the charity.

And there have been many other events during the course of the last year which have boosted the total raised for the cause.

On Thursday evening members of the local committee met at Ogstons Hotel on the High Street to present their yearly total to the area representative of Cancer Research UK, Richard Cowie.

Local committee member Alana Loudon was delighted with the amount raised and gladly handed over the cheque to Cancer Research UK.

Currently, the committee is trying to boost their fund-raising efforts by auctioning off a signed framed Rangers FC football shirt.

The shirt was given to Arbroath FC when they faced the Glasgow club in the Scottish Cup in January and two weeks ago the Gayfield club presented the shirt to the Cancer Research committee.

Bids have been flying in for the shirt which started at £30 and have now reached £125.

The committee has decided to keep the auction open until the end of May and the highest bidder will be presented with the souvenir.

Anybody wanting to bid can send an email or text to Alana on alanaloudon@hotmail.co.uk or 07881940418.
