Body recovered at Carlingheugh Bay

POLICE and the Arbroath Lifeboat crew were involved in the recovery of a body from Arbroath cliffs earlier today (Monday).

The joint operation, which also involved members of HM Coastguard, saw a body recovered from the Carlingheugh Bay area of Arbroath cliffs.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Tayside Division can confirm that at 11.55 a.m. police and coastguard attended at the shoreline below Arbroath cliffs where a body was recovered from the water.

“Enquiries are continuing regards the incident. No further information is known at this time.”

The area around the Lifeboat Shed at Arbroath harbour was cordoned off for the duration of the operation.

A spokesperson for the RNLI said: “Both the all-weather lifeboat RNLB Inchcape and inshore lifeboat Duncan Ferguson were launched at approximately 12.05 p.m. and arrived at the scene shortly after.

“The casualty was recovered by the volunteer crew of the inshore lifeboat and brought back to the lifeboat station. Care of the deceased person was then transferred to the police.”
