FOLLOWING last week’s news that the benches facing the Arbroath Court had been finally removed by Angus Council after a numerous complaints from residents and visitors, Arbroath councillor Donald Morrison has said he is pleased that remedial work on the remaining benches around the town is currently being carried out.
Members of the Town Centre Project which includes local councillors had been pressing for the benches in the town to be tidied up or replaced for some time.
Speaking as a member of the Project, councillor Morrison said: “Many of the benches in the town have been looking a bit tired and in dire need of some attention. Members of the Town Centre Project have been calling for the council to do something about this for sometime which included the removal of the court benches.
“So we are delighted work is taking place at pace and would like to thank the council staff.”
He concluded: “It is important as part of the townscape that the street furniture such as bins and benches are maintained so it is good to hear those benches which are well past their best will be replaced as quickly as possible. The council is also looking at other sites around the town where new seating could be installed.”
