ONLY a small group of sailors managed to complete the Bell Rock regatta after miserable weather left a dampener on the event.
The race, which was part of the Year of the Light celebrations was meant to see a flotilla of vessels sail from Arbroath Harbour to the Bell Rock lighthouse and back again.
But heavy rain, wind and poor visibility meant some of the smaller boats were unable compete in the 22 mile regatta.
Conditions did improve slightly during Saturday morning and several vessels attempted to start the race.
But some turned around to come back into the Harbour due to the conditions with the Arbroath RNLI ready to assist sailors on their way back in.
However, a decision was taken to attempt the regatta again on Sunday, and five yachts eventually did make the trip out to the Bell Rock lighthouse.
Fortunately the small fleet enjoyed much improved weather conditions and took between five and six hours to complete the race.
All participants received a memento from competing in the event and a presentation night is being planned to honour everybody who took part and supported the regatta.
