Beach party with a difference

ANGUS Carers’ Centre, Fisheracre, Arbroath, recently hosted a beach party with a difference for young carers to celebrate the beginning of the summer holidays.

Over 40 young carers attended the event at the CAFE Project and enjoyed ‘all the fun of the fair’ with activities such as tin-can alley, hoopla and hook-a-duck. As well as having a great time, the event allowed them to meet with other young carers, form new friendships and enjoy some well-deserved time out from their caring role.

The event is the first of a series of activities planned for over the summer which will include a family barbecue, a trip to Alton Towers and a weekend camping at the Scottish Young Carers Festival.

The Young Carers Service is part of Angus Carers Centre which is a local charity which was started in 1996 by those who care for a family member. The Centre is part of the UK-wide Princess Royal Trust for Carers network.

Currently working with around 200 young carers, it is thought that this is only the tip of the iceberg and that there are many more young carers who have not been identified and in fact may not even realise themselves that they are a young carer. If you are a young carer or know a young person who may benefit from the support available, please contact the Angus Carers Centre on 01241 439157.
