FORMER members of 45 Royal Marine Commando Group now with the East of Scotland branch of The Royal Marines Association (RMA) helped customers pack their groceries at Morrisons Superstore, Arbroath on Saturday.

The former ‘bootnecks’ received donations from the grateful customers in appreciation of their assistance at the checkout tills.

The monies raised on the day will be added to the RMA’s charity fund. Most of the cash will go towards the provision of new gates being built for The Falklands Memorial Gardens at Barry Buddon. The Barry Buddon Gardens have memorials to the 13 men from RM Condor who were killed in the 1982 conflict.

The design of the new gates is unique with left and right gates having the map of the Falklands, West Island on the left and East Island on the right.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the Falklands War and a reunion is taking place on the weekend of June 9/10 at Condor. Veterans from all over the world will descend on the base to attend the reunion, and they will also have the opportunity to visit the new Memorial Gardens in Condor and at Barry Buddon.
