There has been national recognition for Arbroath butchers’ steak pies at the recent Scottish Craft Butchers Awards.
D H Robertson, whose shop is at 7 Fisheracre, picked up three awards and Flemings, of 27 West Port, one in the 2015 Scottish Craft Butchers Steak Pie Evaluation.
Robertsons won Gold Awards for their Beef Bourgignon Steak Pie and Beef Stew and Herb Dumpling Pie. Both Flemings and Robertsons won Silver Awards in the Traditional Steak Pie category.
When the judging took place at Perth College last month more than 150 pies from throughout the country were tested for appearance, flavour, filling and appeal. The panel of judges included experts, cooks and interested consumers and the event was organised by the Scottish Federation of Meat Traders, in conjunction with Quality Meat Scotland and William Sword Ltd. David Mooney, of William Sword said: “To receive an award is a fantastic achievement.”
Robertsons Pamela Bennett told the Herald: “We’re absolutely delighted. It’s a real team effort and lots of hard work goes into the creation of a new recipe. We’re thrilled to have received two Gold and one Silver awards.”
