MEMBERS of Arbroath Royal British Legion Scotland Pipe Band celebrated on Saturday having taken a fifth place in the 4a grade at the Cowal Championships.

The event, which is held in Dunoon, is the final championship in the pipe band calendar and saw the Arbroath collective finishing in ninth place in their grades championship table for the 2012 season.

Although the rain stayed off for most of the day the finale of the day was hit by torrential rain. The renowned street parade which involves bands marching through Dunoon was a bit of a washout but didn’t stop the members of Arbroath band parading their trophy through the town with a cops and robbers theme.

Pipe Major Stephen Russell said: “I was very proud of the band members for their hard work and commitment in getting us to this fifth place position. Cowal is a great championship. We still have one competition before the end of this year’s contest season so we are hoping to continue our success in Pitlochry on Saturday, September 8.”
