THE CLUBROOMS chairman of the Arbroath branch of the Royal British Legion Scotland, Mike Fletcher, has reported that there have been various meetings with affiliated associations which will help the branch and club move forward.

Annie Ogilvie and the Women’s Section have had another busy month. They had their Ladies’ Night on February 15 with 35 members in attendance.

They have done the catering for several funerals over the last couple of months.

The property team is looking into the maintenance of the gas boiler, getting the electric certificate up to date and upgrading of the first aid kits in the branch to comply with regulations. Members are also looking into the repair of the main hall roof and the main foyer is on the list to get upgraded.

Sports convener Kenny McPherson reported that the dominoes championship was held on January 19 when the winner was S.J. Hartley and the runner-up was M. Cooper. The cribbage competition at the beginning of February saw D. McIvor winning with W. Scott being runner-up in his first competition. Shaun Berrie won the darts on February 17 and Mark Shepherd was runner-up.

The pipe band members are preparing for the forthcoming competitions. Branch members will parade at the Western Cemetery for the annual ANZAC Parade, which this year will be on April 28.

Membership of the Legion is open to former serving members of HM Forces and those still serving. You can also apply to become an associate member without direct service connections. A member can also invite you into the premises as a guest.
