Appeal after sheep killed in field

TAYSIDE Police have appealed to the public for information after four sheep were found dead and another 15 were injured in a field at Newbarns Farm, Inverkeilor, at about 12.30 p.m. on Tuesday.

A dog - believed to be a Staffordshire bull terrier - was seen in the field where the sheep were by passers-by and it appears that one of them restrained the dog before the farmer, who had been alerted, arrived. The farmer took possession of the dog and passed it to police officers when they arrived at the scene.

Police want to trace the owner of the dog and the group of people who were in the area at the time of the incident.

The dog itself is described as being a large powerful dog, very dark brown in colour and is believed to be a Staffordshire bull terrier.

Anyone who can assist with enquiries should call Tayside Police on 0300 111 2222, or speak to any police officer. Alternatively information can be passed anonymously via the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
