Angus musicians working in harmony

On Tuesday evening Angus Council’s Music Instructors held a concert for their pupils from Carnoustie and North Arbroath.

Pupils from P4 to S6 took part and had a wonderful night of music in Carlogie Primary School.

A group of 36 violin beginners made their first ever performance and there were prize winning soloists of primary and secondary age. From Carnoustie High School a folk group and a brass ensemble, from Carnoustie primaries two brass bands, who performed with a piper for the finale. There was delightful piano duet from Mrs Branney’s Carlogie pupils and a beautiful vocal solo.

There were brass, string and piano players from Carnoustie High School, Arbroath Academy, Inverkeilor PS, St Thomas’ PS, Hayshead PS, Carlogie PS, Woodlands PS, Burnside PS, Newbigging PS and Monikie PS.

Angus School’s Youth Folk Group, ‘Skirdechal’ took part, the first set including a debut for new members, and the second a whirlwind set of reels for a trio of Irish dancers.

Carlogie Primary Hall was packed out, and audience members enjoyed refreshments from Carlogie P6’s Fairtrade Café – ‘Fairlogie’.

It was a magical evening!

Katherine Liley, Michael Robertson and Joan Branney would like to thank Judith Reid, Anne Wilkie, Linda White, David McColgan, David MacArthur, Matthew Bicket, the P6 Fairlogie team and everyone else who helped make the night a success – especially the young musicians, their families and carers.
