A LONGSTANDING Angus politician was given the freedom of the county by Angus Council this week.
Arbroath SNP councillor Alex King introduced a motion for Andrew Welsh, former MSP, MP and councillor in Angus to be made a Freeman of Angus on Thursday at the full Angus Council meeting in Forfar on Thursday.
Councillor Welsh gave a potted history of Mr Welsh’s background in Angus politics, in outlining his motion, Councillor King highlighted nearly 40 years of public service in Angus.
He said: “No other Member of Parliament has given the years of service to the people of Angus that Andrew Welsh has, with over 18 years at Westminster, 12 years at Holyrood and three years as Provost of Angus.”
The motion was seconded by Conservative Monifieth councillor Craig Fotheringham and it was passed unanimously by the councillors present.
