Angus Care and Repair to run safety day

ANGUS Care and Repair has been awarded £3,900 from the National Lottery Awards for All to run a free home safety day for older people on June 24.

It will highlight how to avoid falls in the home, suitable exercise, minor adaptations, safety in the home, good eyecare and telecare equipment.

One in three people over 65 have a fall every year, and this increases to one in two for people over 80. It is hoped that this event will provide information to reduce these statistics.

The event will be held in Forfar Farmington Hall at the back of the County Buildings, Market Street, and anyone interested in attending should contact Helen on 01307 463232. There is capacity for 60 people and a snack lunch will be provided.

The event will start at 10.30 a.m. with tea/coffee and at 11 a.m. there will be a seated exercise demonstration.

There will also be a talk on eyecare, another exercise class, information and equipment, a Tai Chi demonstration at 2 p.m. and the event will end at 3 p.m.

Recently Care and Repair advertised that they were to be cleaning out bungalow-height gutters again for a limited time only. Last week they completed work case number 32,000, cleaning out gutters for a lady in Carnoustie. Whilst there is a nominal charge of £30 for cleaning out gutters all other services are still free of charge.

As an organisation which sometimes works with vulnerable people all the staff have had full disclosure checks and also have a caring and respectful nature toward the client group.

The small-repairs officers are all time served joiners with excellent skills and are all identifiable with blue uniforms and white vans with the Angus Care and Repair logo on them.

All officers also carry identification. An appointment will have been made by telephone or letter prior to them visiting. The type of work carried out includes changing tap washers, easing windows and doors, draught-proofing, replacement locks, replacing light bulbs. There is only a charge for the materials used – there is no charge for the time or travel. Call 01307 463232 and Helen will assist you.
