AN ARBROATH hairdresser has won a sought after place in the grand final of a major industry competition.
On Thursday, Ally Deacon (28) from Saks Hair and Beauty in Dundee secured his spot in the finals of the L’Oreal Colour Trophy.
The live competition was held in the Glasgow Hilton and over 45 minutes Ally brushed off competition from 60 other salons in the Scottish and Northern Irish regionals to secure his place at the final in London in June.
Former Arbroath High School pupil Ally has been in hairdressing for nearly 13 years. He explained the remit given to each team.
“We had to turn up with an on-trend look for this coming autumn / winter and basically we had to recreate our look within 45 minutes.”
According to Ally it was a nice surprise when it was announced they would be travelling to the grand final. He said: “It’s all a haze. I wasn’t expecting it and it came as a bit of a shock.
“I’m definitely looking forward to the final. It was good as well because there were a couple of winners but we were first overall.”
Over 455 salons took part nationwide but thanks to Ally’s efforts Saks will be one of the 42 finalists who will go head to head at the 58th annual grand final of the L’Oreal Colour Trophy at Grosvenor House, Park Lane, London.
Each team was tasked with creating an overall model look that flawlessly merged a well-executed haircut with inspirational hair colour alongside an ensemble outfit that reflected an understanding of key trends from the autumn / winter collection.
The winning team will receive a year’s worth of unique opportunities which will allow them to take their talent and their business to the next level.
