All set to welcome back pipe band

The Lord Selkirk RFM Pipe Band return to Arbroath tomorrow to renew existing friendships in the hometown of their founder.

Pipe Major Robert Fraser led the band for 55 years before his passing in 2012.

The band was recently renamed the Lord Selkirk Robert Fraser Memorial Pipe Band (RFM) to pay tribute to the man who was loved and admired by many.

His stories of growing up in Arbroath, learning to play the pipes and drums, as well as Highland Dance, in the Boys Brigade gave way to many band trips and helped to reinforce his “pay it forward” philosophy.

The band and families will hike the Seaton Cliffs Nature Trail and perform with the Arbroath Royal British Legion Scottish Pipe Band, parading from the High Street Pedestrian Mall to Arbroath Abbey tomorrow (Saturday, August 22) at 3 p.m.

The men and women of the Arbroath Legion, many of whom knew Mr Fraser, will welcome the group for dinner and a dedicated Memorial Bench will also be installed at Dickmont’s Den.
