An Arbroath drama group are staging their very own free family festival this weekend, with the centrepiece being a riot of colour.
Tomorrow (Saturday) is the inaugural LimeLight ColourFest at Victoria Park which is being staged by the LimeLight Company and also sets the scene for their 5K Colour Run which they organised for the first time at last year’s SeaFest.
Chris O’Mara from LimeLight explained: “The LimeLight ColourFest is completely free, created for the sake of having an event for the people of Arbroath to get down to, and have, fun!
“There will be stalls, live entertainment, and it will host the second LimeLight Colour Run. On the day, we’ll have competitions running throughout reminiscent of the old ‘donkey derby’ days, such as ‘glamorous granny’ and ‘world’s strongest dad,’ as well as kids’ races, and our big challenge, Chris versusMike, where our organisers will go head to head in embarrassing and degrading challenges to finally prove who is better - or at least, who the biggest fool is!”
The Colour Run itself is a 5K track that you can take at any pace you like and, along the way, participants stop at paint stations to be doused in special paint powder, creating an explosion of colours with the people as the canvas.
It is expected that several hundred people will be taking part tomorrow.
Chris continued: “With the weather set to be on our side, we want the whole town and their grannies along to the event, to bring the town together in some good old fashioned fun and socialising. With the Millgate Beer Tent running all day, the main stage hosted by Jivin’ Jim, and some headline acts by some of the best local talent, it’s set to be an incredible event. Whether you join in with the run, join in with the famous Finish Festival, where we paint the sky in an explosion of colour, or come and watch and relax with the kids, let’s celebrate July 4 as a the tightknit, friendly community that we can be!”
Just confirmed for the main stage is Arbroath rapper Silibil, one half of the infamous duo Silibil and Brains.
Also on the bill are ‘Unknown On Sunday,’ Cheryl Brown, ‘Vote For Lust’ and the LimeLight Company themselves.
The fun starts at 11am and runs all day until 5pm.
