Arbroath councillor Donald Morrison joined a number of local volunteers in cleaning up the town's Victoria Beach last Saturday.
Volunteers of all ages and nationalities began the litter pick at the mid-slipway, finishing up at Danger Point. By then numerous litter bags had been filled with tin cans, plastic wrappers and other discarded rubbish.

Reflecting on the event, Cou
ncillor Morrison said: "Cynics may think this operation is futile but rubbish and the amount of it on our beaches is an embarrassing eyesore so I was delighted to do something about it by volunteering in the clean up of the beaches at Victoria and Lunan Bay, the weekend before.

"I would like to thank Tomas Cabla for organising this excellent initiative. His enthusiasm in keeping our beaches and other public spaces litter free is extremely refreshing and I would urge more residents to volunteer and prove those cynics wrong."

Future clean up operations are being arranged for later in the year, details of which will be available from the Volunteer Centre Angus, Guthrie Port, Arbroath, telephone 875525.
