THE ST Andrew's Church Malawi Group was given a great send off last Sunday, with family and friends in attendance after a church service at Arbroath Academy.
The group, which has headed to Africa for a month, was greeted at Lilongwe airport by Becky Dunphy and Charis Bowie, who had travelled to Malawi earlier.

A noisy journey to the village followed and the news at the end of their first week at the Na
misu Orphan village is very positive.

The group has mainly been involved in class work, and when school is over for the day they have been doing crafts or sport with the children.

Preparation and measuring was done for solar panels for a clinic in village, and also play area materials were ordered for the St Andrew's Day Care and Residential Centre in Thyolo.

The group had walked about three miles into Lunzu, the nearest town and visited the market as well as buying Chitenjis (wrap around skirts) on Saturday.

They hoped to go on a school trip on Tuesday to visit a Conservation Park. Everyone had settled in well and youth leader Sheila Dunphy was happy at how they had all coped and even taken to the household chores on the rota!
