WOULD you like the opportunity to join Arbroath's 2010 Cancer Research UK Relay For Life and make a difference?
Relay For Life is the world's largest fund-raising event, and there is one taking place in Arbroath starting on Saturday, September 25 and going on into the following day.
On September 25, men, woman and children will converge on Arbroath United C
ricket Club to take part in the Cancer Research UK's Relay For Life.
The event is one of more than 100 taking place across the UK in an effort to raise awareness of cancer and boost vital funds for Cancer Research UK's pioneering world-class research, to improve understanding of the disease and to find out how best to prevent, diagnose and treat different forms of cancer.
The Relay For Life will bring together the whole community for up to 24 hours to celebrate the lives of those who have survived cancer, and remember those who have passed away and honour the courage of their loved ones.
When the day arrives, teams will camp overnight at the cricket club and celebrate their fund-raising achievement and, when they are not taking their turn round the track, they can take part in a range of fun activities or enjoy a well earned rest.
At 9 p.m. on Saturday night the atmosphere will quieten as the Candle of Hope Ceremony, the most poignant part of the Relay For Life, begins.
Special messages are written on Candle of Hope bags in memory of or in celebration of loved ones. The candles will be lit, and these will then be placed around the track as darkness falls. A minute's silence will be observed in tribute to those whose lives have been touched by cancer.
It is easy to enter a team.
It is easy to recruit members for your team.
It is easy to participate.
It is easy to do nothing.
It is not easy to beat cancer but ... together we will beat cancer.
These are some of the commonly asked questions about Relay:
