DUE TO heavy rain throughout yesterday (Sunday, November 1), many areas throughout Tayside are still experiencing severe flooding.
This has resulted in numerous incidents being reported to Tayside Police who, working alongside Tayside Fire and Rescue, associated council services, roads departments and Bear Scotland, have dealt with these incidents and provided assistance to the
public.

River levels on a number of rivers throughout Tayside are high and fast flowing but appear to be levelling out and have not been affected by the incoming tide. Rivers have been monitored overnight and will continue to be monitored until river levels subside.

Motorists are advised that due to the heavy rain and localised flooding that a number of road closures have had to be put in place, with a number of these still being in place by this morning (Monday, November 2).

These include the A92 which is closed at Grange, at Muirdrum and at Inverkeilor. The closure at Inverkeilor resulted from flooding on the railway line which has also been closed, resulting in trains being held at Montrose and Dundee, with Scotrail having to bus passengers to Aberdeen.

A number of road closures are also still in place on several minor and unclassified road throughout the Tayside area and motorists are advised to follow local diversions and to take extra care due to standing water and debris on the road as a result of the flooding and heavy rain.

In the Arbroath area in particular, water levels have been very high and members of the public should take extra care and time over their journeys.

Tayside Police suggest that parents should strongly advise their children to stay away from any flowing water whilst making their way to school when out playing.

The public are advised that further assistance on flooding issues can be obtained by referral to the latest information on the Scottish Environment Protection Agency 'Live Flood Waning Information' site, and travel information can be obtained from a number of other agencies including Traffic Scotland, AA Roadwatch and Traffic Link etc.

Tayside Police ask motorists not to contact them directly to check on road conditions, but to check with these agencies. However, if drivers are experiencing hazardous conditions they should contact Tayside Police on 0300 111 2222.

See this week's Arbroath Herald for a full report and pictures on the flooding locally.
