MEMBERS of 45 Commando were welcomed to the Houses of Parliament on Tuesday by MPs, Peers and Parliamentary staff.
The unit marched from Wellington Barracks to the House of Commons to mark its return after the recent tour of Afghanistan.
One hundred and twenty personnel, led by the band of the Royal Marines marched through the carriage gates into Palace Yard
to Westminster Hall where they were welcomed by Lindsay Hoyle MP, the chairman of the All Party Royal Marines Group, the Defence Secretary Bob Ainsworth and other parliamentarians.
Angus MP Mike Weir, who is a member of the All Party Royal Marine Group, joined the welcome. He said it was a fitting ceremony to honour the unit after their recent deployment in Afghanistan.
Mr Weir continued: "The sight of the splendid Royal Marine Band leading the unit into Palace Yard in beautiful sunshine was quite moving.
"The unit has gone through a difficult deployment in Helmand where so many were lost or injured and it was good to join them in such a joyful occasion."
"It is ultimately politicians who make the decisions that send troops into action and it is fitting that we also meet them and congratulate them on their return from such actions."
