THE ARBROATH branch was well represented at the Royal British Legion Scotland annual conference, which took place in Perth earlier this month.
Some 200 delegates attended the two-day event in the concert hall.
The Angus and Perthshire area council acted as the host area which meant that Arbroath branch secretary, Dallas Roy, as area chairman, welcomed his fellow NEC committee members to the Fair City.

Mike Fletcher, Arbroath, area secretary, was heavily involved with the administration during the conference and since early spring had been making arrangements for the delegates' accommodation reservations with the Perthshire Tourist Board.

Another Arbroath branch committee member, Jeff Smart, who is a member of Arbroath Instrumental Band, was the official bugler at the laying of wreaths at the War Memorial and at the opening and closing ceremonies at the concert hall.

At the end of the first day of business, Arbroath branch was presented with the Scot Cup, as branch winners of the National Junior Golf Competition for 2007.

Derek Scott, Arbroath branch/club treasurer, received a certificate of meritorious service from the national president, Lieutenant General Sir Alistair Irwin, KCB.CBE., in appreciation of outstanding service to the Royal British Legion Scotland.

Mr Scott joined the organisation in 1964, and became a member at Arbroath in 1972. He has held the post of branch/club treasurer since December, 1983, and was appointed vice-chairman in 2002.

He has been secretary/treasurer of the local Earl Haig Fund and treasurer of the poppy collection committee for many years. Having held several different appointments at Angus and Perthshire area council since 1973, he is meantime area treasurer and honorary president.
At the women's section annual conference in St Andrews the following week, Mrs Georgina Ogilvy, Arbroath branch chairman and national vice-chairman, had the honour of chairing the official proceedings at conference, as the chairman was unable to attend.

The Arbroath women's section was awarded the Haig Cup, presented by the national president, for the most proficient section in Scotland during the year.
