THERE have been no confirmed sightings of a Slovakian man who has been missing for exactly one year fuelling fears that he fell into the sea at Arbroath's cliffs and has been washed away.
Ludo Gonda, a 32-year-old who lived and worked in the town, was reported missing on February 7 last year after a bicycle, fishing equipment and a rucksack belonging to him were found at the foot of the cliffs.
Following his disappearance, a huge land, sea and air search was launched to try and trace him, but no clues have been uncovered to suggest what might have happened to him.
Tayside Police have confirmed that they have had no official sightings of Mr Gonda since his disappearance and that the case is still being treated as a missing persons enquiry.
As it is thought Mr Gonda went fishing at the 'Horseshoe' area of the cliffs on the morning he disappeared, one theory is that he may have fallen into the water.
At the time this sparked an operation that included Tayside Police, the Forth Coastguard, an RAF helicopter from Lossiemouth and the RNLI lifeboats from Arbroath to search the area around where his belongings were found.
The Grampian Police underwater search team also carried out a detailed examination of the area as part of the investigation but nothing was ever found.
A spokeswoman from Tayside Police said officers were still keen to hear from anybody who may have information about Mr Gonda's disappearance so they can piece together why nobody has seen him for a year.
The last confirmed sighting of him was on the morning he disappeared at around 6.45 a.m. when he cycled back home to Woodlea Caravan Park, where he stayed after finishing work at a company based at the Kirkton Industrial Estate.
Mr Gonda suggested he was going to go fishing later that day and he was later captured on CCTV cameras at 8 a.m. entering the Harbour Stores grocer on the High Street before cycling towards Victoria Park wearing a red puffa-style jacket, blue jeans and black Nike trainers.
He is described as being five feet nine inches tall, slim, with short black hair and green eyes. He also has a heart/woman skeletal design tattoo on his right upper arm and a scar on his stomach.
Anyone with any information about Mr Gonda's disappearance should contact Tayside Police on 0300 111 2222 or speak to any officer.
