DIAMOND couple James and Jean Kidd celebrated 60 years of marriage on Thursday at their home in East Abbey Street.
The pair, who are both from Arbroath were joined for the occasion by depute Lord Lieutenant of Angus Fiona Fraser, depute Provost Peter Murphy and local MP Mike Weir.
They have always lived in the area with Mr Kidd attending Parkhouse School and M
rs Kidd going to Ladyloan.
They were married at St John's Methodist Church on December 17, 1949, after meeting at the Marine ballroom.
The occasion really was a white wedding as snow was falling as they came out of the church after the ceremony.
After marrying the couple lived in Seagate where Mr Kidd worked as a fisherman and Mrs Kidd brought up their family.
They have two sons, David and James, both of whom live locally and a daughter, Jennifer, who now lives in Perthshire. They also had another son who sadly died some years ago.
There are seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
To celebrate the occasion, Mr and Mrs Kidd were joined by the family for a get-together on Saturday and a party at the Meadowbank is planned for the new year.
