MEMBERS of Arbroath Inner Wheel visited the Old and Abbey Church hall last Wednesday to deliver a donation to the Food Parcel Scheme which they had been collecting for since the beginning of the year.
Several large boxes of tinned food, packets and jars, toiletries and other household necessities were a welcome addition to the store.
Inner Wheel Day on January 10 was marked by clubs the length and breadth of the United Kingdom by selecting a wo
rthy local charity to help. The scheme, supported by all the local churches, fills a real need for local people who are experiencing difficulties.
Individuals and families can get a stamped referral form from various sources including the churches themselves, Angus Citizens' Advice Bureau, Havilach, Gowrie Care and Angus Council social work department for their emergency supplies. No payment is required and those in real need can be referred for a limited amount of aid once a month.
Fay Forge, the organiser and outreach worker for the church, has a dedicated band of 24 volunteers who give their time and energy to run the scheme.
While the churches give a great deal of support to the Food Parcel Scheme, donations in cash or kind from local people and other organisations would be much appreciated and can be made to the church office from Tuesday to Friday between 12 noon and 2 p.m.
