In conjunction with police and local councillors, it has been decided to close the gates leading up from Lochlands Drive during school hours in order to enhance school security.
Mr Orr commented: "Many schools have a perimeter fence that totally e
ncircles the school and has one point of entry during the day which can be clearly monitored.
"In the case of the High School this is more difficult given the fact that the sports centre and car park are open to the public.
"One area of concern is the back of the school which can be easily accessed by the steps leading up from Lochlands Drive."
He went on to say that there have been one or two incidents where individuals who are not High School pupils have been up at the school building causing problems, requiring the police to be called.
The new arrangements are that the gates will be closed from 9.20 a.m. to 12.50 p.m. and from 2.15 p.m. to 3.30 p.m., starting from the beginning of the new school term, on Monday, October 20.
Mr Orr continued: "This means that pupils arriving late to school because of an appointment or members of the public wishing to access the sports centre during these hours, will require to do so via the main gates off Keptie Road.
"I realise that this may cause a slight inconvenience for some people at these times but hope that all concerned will appreciate the need for improved security and safety for the large number of children (more than 1,000) who attend the school."
