CHEQUES totalling over £3,000 were presented to the Furniture Recycling Project Angus (FRPA) and Starter Packs Angus on Monday.
Both charities received £1,675 from the Angus Association of Voluntary Organisations (AAVO) and the Earl of Dalhousie, patron of the FRPA, was on hand to accept the cheque on their behalf.
The FRPA provides second hand furniture to the homeless an
d people on low-incomes while Starter Packs Angus provides people starting a new tenancy with household items such as cutlery, crockery, pots and pans.
Mai Hearne, chief officer of AAVO was delighted to hand over the donation and says both organisations carry out important work .
She said: "As a member of the Angus Rural and Environment Partnership, AAVO received this money from a small dormant fund to support environmental awareness.
"AAVO decided to use this to support the work of FRPA and Starter Packs Angus in their recycling role as both organisations have a shared commitment to alleviating the hardships of poverty and homelessness.
"They also foster recycling initiatives and environmental awareness in Angus and AAVO is delighted to make this donation of £1,675 to each organisation as a small contribution to their vital work for communities."
