A MAN was killed in a road accident near Friockheim on Friday afternoon.
He was identified by police on Monday as 53-year-old David Courtney Hockin, of Renmure, by Arbroath

He was driving his Mitsubishi Colt car along the B961 Redford to Legaston road, near Friockheim, when the accident occurred at about 4.15 p.m.

P
olice, fire and ambulance attended but Mr Hockin was pronounced dead at the scene.

His car had landed on its roof after it left the road, struck a verge then crashed into a solid stone dyke near Mains of Cononsyth.

It is believed that the vehicle had been travelling towards Legaston.

The road was closed for several hours to allow traffic officers to examine the scene.

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesman confirmed that they had been called to the B961 between Friockheim and Redford following reports that a car had overturned.

He added that the crew arrived at the scene at 4.20 p.m. and said that the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Councillor Donald Morrison, Arbroath East and Lunan, said his thoughts were with the family of the dead man.

He commented: "It is quite a wide road and can sometimes be quite fast. It is often used as a shortcut to Brechin.

"However, it had been wet with some sunshine so the road could have been slippery when the accident happened - we just don't know. It is a real tragedy."

Police have urged anyone who witnessed the accident or saw the car on the road to call them on 0300 111 2222.
