ARBROATH singer/songwriter Eddie Cairney will be one of the supporting acts for Scots singer/songwriter of the year Emily Smith at this year's Mearns Connections Festival.
The Grassic Gibbon Songwriting Group will host a concert and ceilidh with Emily, who was Scots Singer of the Year 2008/9 and is now firmly established as a leading light in Scotland's music scene.
Since winning the 2002 BBC Young Traditional Musician of the Year Award Emily has released three critically acclaimed albums, and toured extensively with her band on the international folk circuit.
The themes for the Mearns Connections Festival centre on Robert Burns, Lewis Grassic Gibbon and Joan Eardley. The Grassic Gibbon Songwriting Group will feature three new songs in tribute to Joan Eardley from Eddie Cairney, Heather Chalmers and Dennis Collie. Rodger Lyall will sing Sunset Song in tribute to Lewis Grassic Gibbon. Eddie will be singing one of the songs he recently wrote in tribute to Joan Eardly, 'Glasgow Weans and East Cost Storms'.
