TWO MEMBERS of NHS Tayside dental staff from Arbroath are heading to Romania tomorrow (Saturday) to help treat disadvantaged children living there.
Springfield Community Dental Clinic's Senior Dental Officer Dr Gillian Elliott and Community Dental Nurse Fiona Thompson will work for a week in a Romanian children's home, Casa Harului (House of Grace), along with a group of nine other volunteers.
Gillian and Fiona will be carrying out treatment with some of the children there in Hunedoara, as well as trying to set up a permanent dental clinic that other dentists will be able to use when they visit.
Wright-Cottrell dental company in Dundee have been very generous in donating much-needed equipment, materials and instruments for their cause.
Fiona said: "We are looking to help the children of Romania who are not as fortunate as ourselves and come to the home for a week at a time to leave behind unbelievable conditions of social deprivation for a while.

"They are offered the opportunity of living in a healthy environment with good food, clean accommodation and plenty of fun and games.
"We will be trying to set up a dental clinic and offering treatment to some of the children who need it.
"This is all about filling the children's lives with a little bit of cheer and we will also be helping make beds, cooking, cleaning, and generally playing with the children, by teaching them crafts and healthy living."
Gillian and Fiona have been holding various fund-raising events including a race night and beetle drive for equipment, travel and accommodation.
