THE WEBSTER Memorial Theatre was sold out on Friday for the Appolinari Dance Studio's 'Evening of Dance'.
Dance director Edwina Barraclough's programme displayed the various styles of dance taught which, together with well-rehearsed pupils and some striking costumes, resulted in an excellent evening's entertainment.
Opening the show were Classes Five
Wednesday and Saturday in 'Rockaria'. The choreography was exacting and, together with innovative costumes, created a lasting impact.
A few pupils from these classes combined in 'Les Troyennes', a classical ballet. The scene was serene, and it is impressive to see so many young dancers proficient en pointe.
Class Five Wednesday cleverly danced 'Hillbilly Tap'. This was followed by Caitlyn Beattie, Louise Crozier and Fiona Wilson on their own with the well choreographed 'Breakthru', which was fast-moving and faultlessly executed.
'Fields of Gold' by Class Five Saturday was a tranquil modern ballet sympathetically choreographed and danced, In contrast to this 'Just Dance' by Class Five Wednesday, choreographed by Stevie Falconer and Sarah Spurway, was an exciting piece of hip hop danced to perfection.
'Latin Beat' by Class Five Saturday was bursting with energy and their tap to 'The Boy Does Nuthin' was greatly received. 'Kick It' was full of vigour, cleverly choreographed and well danced by Abbey Scott, Caitlin Whittaker, Remy Beattie and Katherine Holmes.
A visual highlight was 'When You Believe'. Enhanced by UV lighting, Class Five Wednesday produced beautiful fluid lines in this modern ballet.
Changing the mood with choreography by Bert Callon and Danielle Phillips, Class Five Saturday's 'Shake Your Tailfeather' was lively and entertaining, as was their 'Wake Me Up'. Both dances produced good teamwork and presentation.
Class Five Wednesday burst on to the stage wearing fabulous costumes and danced 'Salsa Fever'. This fiery choreographed piece showed the girls at their best, and obviously enjoying every minute. 'Spice World' saw Steve Falconer and Sarah Spurway give a dynamic performance of their work.
Class 4's introduction was 'Crazy Little Thing'. They then changed into tap shoes for a bright 'Foot Tapper'. Their ballet, 'Grandioso', was appreciated by the audience, and a group comprising Ericka Barker, Gemma Fraser, Siobhan Dear, Nicola Fairlie, Dervla Duncan Cox, Ellie Callon, Jacqueline Bell and Beth Hodgens remained on stage to dance 'Allegro'. This was a very fast piece of music and the girls handled it with ease, producing excellent footwork. Sam Wright was next with 'Salut Homme'. displaying good tours en l'air. Their final dance was 'We Like to Party', which was full of fun.
'Latino, by Class three, produced good rhythm, and Chantelle Mitllari delighted with her own work in 'Excerpt from High School Musical'.
'Clockwork Dolls' was imaginatively costumed and danced convincingly. 'Snowfairies' had an ethereal quality, and was delicately undertaken. 'Into Something Good' was a lively tap, and 'Coppelia Waltz' was a pleasure to watch.
