FOUR talented artists from Angus have been selected to show their work at one of Scotland's most prestigious contemporary art exhibitions, the annual spectacular hosted by The Royal Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts (RGI).
Jim Dunbar from Carnoustie will show a painting entitled 'Clinker Built'.

Two artists from Abroath, Irene Halliday and Rikki Craig, will exhibit show oil paintings entitled 'In Flower, September Still Life' and 'Straw Market, Florence' respectivel
y and Mena Castledine from Montrose will exhibit a lifesize metallic sculpture entitled 'Hungry Hound'.

All four works of art will be on display at the RGI's hotly-contested annual exhibition, which will run at The Mitchell in Glasgow from November 6 to 29.

The event attracted over 1,100 entries from artists all over Scotland and only 309 works have been selected for the exhibition.

Gordon Macpherson, RGI president, said: "This year has surprised us all with the standard of work taken to an even higher level. It is always a tricky job for our selection panel, and for them to try and choose from the abundance of talent this year has been harder than ever.

"The quality of the exhibits will mean another outstanding exhibition and all of the artists should be congratulated for making it through the gruelling selection process."

He concluded: "The public can lift themselves out of this year's doom and gloom of a recession with a veritable visual feast at The Mitchell in Glasgow during November. You might even find the perfect Christmas gift as all of the works from the contemporary Scottish artists will be available for sale."

Cash prizes will be awarded across 16 categories, including several exclusively aimed at young painters, sculptors and first time exhibitors.
