DAVE and Elsie Leadingham, 40 Horologe Hill, Arbroath, celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary last Tuesday (December 28), in the Portcullis with family and friends.
The couple were married in Arbroath just after the start of the war.
Dave was enlisted in the 51st Highland Division and saw action at El Alamein, Sicily landings, D-Day 1, Falaise Gap and Ardennes, finally crossing the Rhine in 1945. He returned to Arbroath where he worked as a plasterer.
Elsie worked as a weaver in long-gone local factories such as the ‘Hullie’, ‘St Rollox,’ ‘Nicolies’ and Frasers. She reminisces that some are long gone, others are reincarnated as housing, tyre fitting centres and a Job Centre.
The couple retired some 30 years ago, but, being blessed with three children, six grandchildren and, at last count, four great-grandchildren, their days are fully occupied, especially at Christmas when a two month lead-in time is required for present wrapping.
