45 Commando respond to Med rescue efforts

Royal Marines from 45 Commando onboard the Royal Navy’s flagship, HMS Bulwark, have responded to the humanitarian mission helping to save the lives of migrants in the Mediterranean.

As the Lead Commando Unit, 45 Commando, maintained at high-readiness, deployed to the Mediterranean on May 2.

Forty members of Yankee Company are aboard the Plymouth-based amphibious assault ship providing security for the landing craft and are conducting the bulk of the rescue efforts.

The crafts are being used to conduct the searching and and have been loaded with lifejackets, food and emergency supplies.
