AN ARBROATH Herald reader is concerned about a Vodafone proposal to install a mobile 'phone mast just yards from Timmergreens Primary School.
Our informant said: "I thought perhaps the paper might be interested in making the parents of children who attend Timmergreen primary school aware that Vodafone have applied for planning permission to erect a mobile phone mast overlooking the school
playground.
"Under planning permission regulations I understand they only have to notify the school as being one of the buildings adjacent, but I doubt the school is under any obligation to notify parents of this proposal."
The writer, who has asked not to be named, goes on to say that the applicant of course quotes that all emissions from such installations are 'safe'.
He continues: "How many times have we heard that before - only to find out years later that it it is not always the case.
"Do we really want to risk our children's health? I think at the very least the parents have a right to know in advance."
The Vodafone Ltd application to Angus Council is for permission to build a telecommunications mast on the footway adjacent to the Timmergreens Co-op in Emislaw Drive.
The proposed structure would be 12 metres high with associated antennae and a transmission disc, as well as an equipment cabinet.
The neighbour notification letter is dated October 31, and no date has yet been set for its consideration by Angus Council's planning committee.
