THE ANGUS fund-raising committee of Cancer Research UK held their first birthday party at Gayfield on Friday night and presented cheques totalling almost £13,000 to the charity.

The get together was organised as a way of the committee thanking all supporters and fund-raisers who had helped them in their first year since forming.

Over the past 12 months, the committee have raised £10,000 through various activities and the cheque was presented to Richard Cowie from Cancer Research UK by committee member Joan Finlayson.

A separate cheque for £2,985 was also presented which was the total proceeds from the inaugural Arbroath New Year’s Day dook.

The dook, which took place at the West Links, was the inaugural event to solely raise money for Cancer Research UK and the Angus committee hope to organise another dook this year.
