Think how much you’d save by not smoking

HAVE you made your quit smoking resolution for the new year? You know it is never too late to stop smoking.

Many people who have smoked for years think it is too late and the damage is already done, but the human body is amazingly resilient. And within the first 20 minutes of quitting, the healing process begins.

Quit smoking benefits will continue to improve your health and quality of life for years.

If like many others you’ve tried to quit before at new year but not quite managed to stick to it, have you thought about how you’ll make it work this time?

The good news is help is at hand.

Did you know that you are at least four times more likely to stop smoking with the help of an NHS quit smoking programme where you can get help and advice from a friendly, trained quit smoking advisor, referral for medication to help you quit and most importantly the support of others who are quitting too.

There are quit smoking groups throughout Angus.

They are free and anyone who wants to quit smoking is welcome to attend.

It is not expected that you will have given up smoking when you come to your first meeting.

Weekly meetings last for around an hour.

If you want to register for a group, telephone the Tayside Smoking Helpline on 0845 600 999 6 or just come along on the day.

Anyone from anywhere in Angus can attend any of these groups.

There is no requirement to be a patient of the particular surgery or even to be from the town where the group is held.

As well as the Tayside Smokeline number above you can get further information about local groups by phoning the NHS Tayside Smoke Free Services in Angus on 01241 430303.
