A hardworking band of Arbroath musicians have juggled their day jobs and a hectic gig calendar to release their first EP this month.
Ride The Tides are hosting a launch night for their four-track EP ‘Bombarded by Images’ at The Fisherman’s Inn at 7.30pm on Friday, March 17.
The band consists of vocalist Willie Campbell, Grant Duncan and Grant Lawson on guitars and backing vocals, drummer Dave Ferguson and bassist Andrew Wilbourn.
Formed in February last year the veteran musicians have returned to their roots, playing live shows and writing new tracks.
The five have been friends for years but their mutual love of live music brought them together to create Ride The Tides’ unique punk-rock-metal fusion, influenced by the likes of Metallica, Deftones and Slipknot, among others.
Andrew Wilbourn told the Herald that it has been a busy year. He said: “While juggling the band around our full-time jobs we played 13 gigs in our first year, from Inverness to Edinburgh and lots of places in between.
“The highlights for the band so far have mainly just been getting out and playing shows and meeting new people.
“It had been quite a few years since we had all previously been involved in playing gigs, so we are enjoying every minute. Playing in the bigger cities is a plus as we are trying to get our music out to a bigger audience for people to enjoy it with us. We played Upload Festival in Dundee back in July 2016, which was our third gig, and we have a couple of festivals lined up for 2017.”
‘Bombarded By Images’ took four months to record and was crafted at Stage 2000 in Dundee. Andrew continued: “It was a great new experience for all of us. Stuart Hanna, who recorded and mixed our music was a fantastic help and was very patient with us. We cannot thank him enough for the time which he put into this project.
“We are very excited about releasing this CD and hope that we can gain interest in the music we create as a hobby.”
Supporting the launch night will be Arbroath band Third Floor Incident, and Dundee groups Solar Sons and FAKE as well as local DJ Andy Van Der Leaton.
Entry is free to the launch night and the band look forward to seeing you there.
