A CHANCE meeting at a ‘Rat Pack’ concert in Dundee of Arbroath singers Doug Ford, Alan Mowatt and Stuart Cargill led to a sell-out charity concert.

Stuart’s wife, Susan, had initially suggested they do a concert together for charity and the idea caught on.

A concert was duly organised and on Friday evening at The Meadowbank in Arbroath the lads got together for the aptly named ‘That’s Life’ event. The money raised - about £3,000 - will be shared equally between the local branches of British Heart Foundation and Macmillan Cancer Support.

Alan said that as they were singing a few Frank Sinatra songs, it seemed apt to call the concert ‘That’s Life’ after one of the singer’s greatest hit recordings.

Friday’s concert was a huge success, with guests receiving a champagne reception on arrival, followed by a hearty meal. The crowd enjoyed the entertainment and danced the night away with Doug, Alan, and Stuart singing as a group or individually songs of yesteryear especially from the Rat Pack era.

Further entertainment was provided by comedian Frank Murray, while master of ceremonies Matt Paterson kept everyone under control.

Doug Ford expressed thanks to Jivin’ Jim of Abbey Music for supplying sound and lights, Keillor Graphics for the backdrop, Meadowbank Inn, Millers of Broughty Ferry for the gentlemen’s attire and of course all those who purchased tickets and helped raise the fantastic sum.

Although the concert was supposed to be a one-off, such has been the demand for tickets that it has already been decided to add another concert tonight (Friday). This has already been sold out but future concerts are in the planning stage.
