Mark Spalding to play work of Morris Pert
AN ARBROATH composer’s work will be showcased at a piano recital next week.
The work of the late Morris Pert will be played by Mark Spalding at Dundee University Chaplaincy on Thursday (February 9).
Mark said: “I first played his music in November, 2010, at a short memorial concert in St Vigeans Church on the day the composer’s ashes were interred.”
Part of the concert can be found on YouTube under morrischurchtrack2 and has received 780 hits so far.
Mark also gave a talk on Morris Pert at Hospitalfield House on the anniversary of his passing. He added: “The interest shown encouraged me to take the music to the Edinburgh Fringe last August where it was warmly received. I am now planning a London performance in the next few months.”
The programme for the concert consists of pieces composed in the 1970s and 2000s inspired by the favourite subjects of the composer, such as the mountains of north-west Scotland, outer space and Pictish heritage.
The recital begins at 7.30 p.m. and admission is £5 or £3 concession.
