Church concert

A FORMER blue ribband winner at the Arbroath Music Festival will be in concert at St Mary’s Episcopal Church on Thursday (November 29).

John Cuthbert will be joined by his sister Aileen Birch for the performance.

John studied at the Royal College of Music in London, and graduated last year with a Masters in piano accompaniment with a distinction.

After graduating he was selected as part of the Foyle’s Future Firsts programme which selects young musicians to do some further study with the London Philharmonic Orchestra.

John has played with them in London and Strasbourg, and with the London Symphony Orchestra in Salzburg and Lucerne.

To give the performance a Scottish feel, John will play Erik Chisholm’s ‘Straloch Suite’.

Aileen was also an Arbroath Music Festival Trophy winner, and has degrees in performance from Goldsmiths College, London, and the University of Hull.

She is currently living near Inverness, and has been singing, with James Ross’s baroque vocal group Musyck Fyne, both as a soloist and as a member of the choir.

The concert will begin at 7.30 p.m. and tickets are £8 or £6 for concessions.
