A MAJOR fund-raising campaign to ‘Save the Bell Rock light’ was held in Arbroath and surrounding area in the late 1980s.

The lighting mechanism at the world famous lighthouse was being replaced and cash was needed to fund a building to house it at Signal Tower Museum.

Our picture, dating from January, 1987, shows the presentation of a £200 cheque, which brought the total to nearly £2,000 or one third of the sum required, by Arbroath 999 Club.

At the handover are, from left - Peter Butcher, Major General Roger J. Ephraums, appeal committee chairman; Constable Robert Carswell, Margaret King, museum curator, Allan Gillies, Bruce Gregory, Willie Smith and Jim Christie.
