IT IS A long time since I have enjoyed such professionalism from amateur musicians - and such youthful ones at that.
Angus Musical Youth Theatre presents 'We Will Rock You' at the Webster Memorial Theatre, Arbroath until tomorrow (Saturday), and it is a real mind-blower of a show.

Each time you think you have heard the best singing of the night, the next one is even better.

The show is written by Ben Elton and was first staged at the Dominion Theatre, London, in 2002. It is still running. In Arbroath, it is produced and directed by Danny Webster.

Featuring - as you might guess from the title - the music of Freddie Mercury and Queen, the plot is set in the future, at a time when the modern trend to have music played by computer rather than musicians has been taken to the ultimate. The mega-corporation Globalsoft has done everything in its power to destroy every single musical instrument in the world. Anyone who shows signs of individuality is dealt with, by brainwashing. Live music is illegal.

Except ... a small group of Bohemians lives in secret, waiting for their saviour, dimly aware that there is more to music than what they are being sold.
