ARBROATH Musical Society's summer presentation, 'Oklahoma!', opened in the Webster Theatre on Tuesday.
This is the third time that the society has performed this musical in it's 100-plus years, but in the new Webster Theatre, this new production is one not to miss.
The society performed the show in the original Webster Theatre in 1959, in 1978 afte
r its first 'refit' and now 30 years later in 2008, premiering their first show in the all-new Webster Theatre.
With the expertise of musical director, Richard Allan, and producer, James Hutcheson, the entire company sparkles with enthusiasm and allows the audience to feel part of 'Oklahoma!'.
The principal roles of Curly and Laurey are played admirably by Jamie Watson, now president of Arbroath Musical Society, and Eileen Masson. Marlene Kerr gives a star performance as Aunt Eller, keeping the cast in line, while Marion Allan, Michael Carlin and Scott Ramsay give an enthusiastic performance as Will Parker, Ado Anne and Slim.
Combined with the sinister Jud, played to perfection by Jim Ramsay, and the comical talents of Kenny Cathro as Ali Hakim, the scene is set for action to take place.
With the familiar comedy lines from Hakim and Jud the audience will not only be entertained by the cowboy antics but also by the long-standing jokes made between cowboy and cowgirl!
Supporting cowboy roles include Ged Ryan as Car Elam and Jim Shaw as Andrew Carnes.
Oklahoma! runs in The Webster Theatre until tomorrow (Saturday), starting at 7.30 p.m. Tickets are available from the Webster Theatre box office on 01241 435800, www.webstertheatre.co.uk or by visiting the theatre box office.
